Powerful cold-season gusts caused walls to collapse onto flimsy shelters housing people uprooted by war in Gaza, claiming the lives of no fewer than four individuals. This tragedy highlights the perilous situation that persist after over 24 months of devastating airstrikes and severe lack of aid.

Truce Provides Little Respite from Harsh Weather

Although a ceasefire has been in effect from October, humanitarian organizations report that residents do not have the sufficient shelter required to withstand frequent winter storms.

Officials at Gaza City's largest medical facility, which took in the victims, reported on Tuesday that the deceased were a pair of adult females, a young female, and a male adult.

Separately, the Gaza health ministry stated on the same day that a 12-month-old infant succumbed of extreme cold during the night.

"The world has allowed us to experience death in all its forms," stated Bassel Hamouda following the burial. "It’s true the bombing may have temporarily stopped, but we have witnessed all imaginable reasons of fatality in the world in the Gaza Strip."

Relatives Buried in Tent Collapse

As per the medical center, three members of a one household — elderly Mohamed Hamouda, his teenage relative, and his son's wife — were killed when an 26-foot tall wall fell on top of their dwelling in a area near the sea of the city. No fewer than 5 additional people were injured in the event.

Their relatives on Tuesday began removing the debris that had buried their family and rebuilding the tent shelters for survivors.

Humanitarian Distribution and Ongoing Emergency

"While 'explosions and gunfire have decreased' during the truce, they have not stopped," Elder informed journalists at a press conference in the Swiss city by video link from Gaza City. "So what the international community now calls quiet would be viewed as a crisis anywhere else," he concluded.

Third Winter of Hardship

Gaza’s population of over two million people has been struggling to fend off the cold weather and bad weather away while enduring shortages of assistance and a absence of more substantial transitional shelter, which is badly required during the winter months.
