Approximately 55,000 homes have currently been harmed by the storms, with their items and temporary homes damaged.

Persistent precipitation over the recent period have intensified the extremely difficult circumstances of the many hundreds of thousands of evacuated civilians in the Gaza Strip, as reported by relief groups.

"Horrendous" Weather Creates Severe Threats

A representative detailed the previous night's conditions as "awful", with rain so intense that up to 15cm (6in) of water accumulated on the terrain.

"The recent weather was really horrendous for the families. The heavy rains were so intense... And the winds were so forceful," said the representative.

Officials express significant concern that children living in makeshift shelters in damp garments will succumb to hypothermia and various illnesses.

Fatalities and Widespread Damage

Medical officials have confirmed that one baby has died from hypothermia and at least 11 other people have died in structural failures caused by the storms.

Additional accounts indicate a greater death toll. Authorities said that multiple structures had totally fallen and dozens had been partly destroyed.

  • Nearly 55,000 families impacted by the weather.
  • More than 40 designated shelters severely flooded.
  • Countless residents required to relocate again.

Relief Distribution Seen as Inadequate

Groups have increased shipments of shelter, blankets and clothing following the truce commenced, but they stress there is remains not enough aid entering.

"Agencies are striving constantly to deliver that assistance and to hand it out, but the magnitude of the requirements is so enormous that we still have a great number of people and children who are truly enduring hardship nightly," warned one representative.

Long-Term Challenges and Agreement Plans

The subsequent part of the ceasefire involves plans for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with post-war governance, the removal of personnel, and other terms.

Humanitarian bodies have stressed the imperative for "greater and continuous relief to address immediate and future needs."

The conflict was triggered by an attack in late 2023. Subsequent actions have resulted in a substantial number of casualties in the region, based on health ministry figures.
