The network's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Secures a Substantial Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.
During the fall season, Adult Swim saw the return of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, shortly thereafter, the network introduced a completely new animated series with a markedly softer tone. Haha, You Clowns was sweet and soothing, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. At a time often defined by dark humor, this show's sincerity struck a chord and propelled it a breakout hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
In mid-December, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose primary trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the fans of the show who welcomed the series and spread the word," stated Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for seasons to come."
A President's Endorsement
The official statement also included commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He shouted out the fans who embraced the show and supported its peculiarly charming appeal.
"All of you showed up for this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. It offers something surprisingly comfy about watching this endearing family go about their daily lives.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa shared his hope to evolve comedy past its current sarcastic tone. He attributed this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.
“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
The Path Forward
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa has the opportunity to help usher in that change he described. At a minimum, the renewal ensures audiences additional episodes to enjoy the warm glow of the endearing Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The complete first season is ready to watch on HBO Max.
