The original creators behind the well-known ice cream brand Ben and Jerry's has announced how corporate owner the multinational conglomerate stopped the launch for an innovative pro-Palestinian frozen dessert product.

The entrepreneur, that established the company alongside his partner, announced how he will personally create the controversial flavor within a personal collection showcasing issues the company has been prevented from speaking out about.

Ongoing Dispute Involving Creators versus Corporate Owner

This latest development deepens the continuing tension among the internationally recognized ice cream maker and its corporate parent, the British packaged goods giant that has owned the ice cream brand for over two decades.

The co-founders have claimed that Unilever along with its ice cream arm the Magnum brand unlawfully blocked Ben & Jerry's against "fulfilling its ethical commitments".

Watermelon Sorbet as an Emblem of Support

The entrepreneur announced through an Instagram video how he is creating a new watermelon-based sorbet, requesting consumer ideas regarding naming options plus potential ingredients.

“I'm accomplishing what they were prevented from doing,” Mr. Cohen stated in his kitchen. “I'm creating a watermelon-based frozen dessert that advocates for lasting ceasefire for Palestinians and calls for addressing the harm that occurred in the region.”

The watermelon has become a symbol for support for the Palestinian people because of its coloration, which closely resemble those of Palestine's national banner – red, green, black and white.

Previous Activism plus Current Developments

In 2021, Ben & Jerry's ceased sales of its products in territories occupied by Israel, resulting in the parent company transferring the Israeli operation over to a local licensee, thus allowing ongoing distribution within disputed territories.

This upcoming dessert series will be developed under Ben's Best, the activist ice cream brand which was first created several years back to support former political contender Senator Sanders with the flavor "Bernie's Return".

Management Shifts plus Future Plans

Mr. Cohen stated how he plans to create additional frozen dessert varieties focusing on issues which the company was silenced from addressing publicly due to corporate restrictions.

This development follows partner Mr. Greenfield stepped down from the company in September, after many years with the organization, mentioning concerns regarding how the company's autonomy had been compromised after Unilever's decision to restrict its social activism.

Previously, Mr. Cohen commented that "Jerry has a really big heart and the ongoing dispute with our parent company was deeply distressing him."

"My heart leads me to keep working within the organization to advocate for corporate autonomy ensuring that it can fulfill its ethical purpose, the principles that established its foundation and has maintained for decades," he explained to media outlets.
