Southern California Experiences Historic Heat Only Days After Major Winter Weather.
Following a week of significant rainfall that led to inundation across parts of the city, the City of Angels is now grappling with abnormally hot weather for this time of year.
Record-Setting Heat
During the day Friday, the temperature reached 33 degrees Celsius (91 Fahrenheit) in the city center, as reported by meteorologists. This breaks the previous daily record for February 27th, which was 31 degrees Celsius (88 Fahrenheit) and was recorded just last year.
"Unusually high temperatures" were labeled on forecast graphics for the region.
Safety Advisories
The weather service stated that Friday's weather posed an "increased danger for heat illness" for people sensitive to heat. Their guidance suggested:
- Keeping well-hydrated.
- Avoiding outdoor activities during the afternoon hours of the day.
- Never leaving kids or animals unattended in a parked vehicle.
A Sharp Shift
This dramatic increase in temperature follows closely after a powerful winter storm that pummeled the region recently. That system brought high winds, thunderstorms, and significant snowfall to the mountains, leading to evacuation orders for countless residents.

Weekend Outlook
The outlook suggests a cooldown is coming. Temperatures were predicted to drop to around sixty-one degrees Fahrenheit in central Los Angeles by overnight.
Additional areas that reached 90°F featured Burbank, Woodland Hills, and Long Beach. Meanwhile, Oxnard, Westwood, Camarillo, and Santa Maria were expected to see the high 80s.
In the coming days, downtown LA can see readings in the 80s, with cooler weather expected for the week ahead.
