Pat Bamford Signs With the Blades After Leading Abusive Songs Targeting Manager Wilder
Patrick Bamford is now a member of the Championship side just seven months after leading disrespectful songs directed at their manager, Wilder.
This experienced forward, a free agent since leaving Leeds United, has put pen to paper on a contract with the Championship club in difficulty through the winter. His seven-year spell at Elland Road finished through agreement in August.
Among Bamford’s final notable acts while at Leeds included starting offensive chants about Chris Wilder during the club’s promotion celebrations this spring. Now, the one-cap England player is set to play for Wilder as the Blades’ manager looks to lift the team he loves away from the drop zone.
Past Conflict Between the Striker & Wilder
Both men had previous conflict before Leeds won promotion back to the Premier League the previous campaign while Sheffield United lost the promotion decider by Sunderland. Making Amends and Moving Forward
All appears has been forgiven and forgotten with Sheffield United, the Championship’s least productive attack, urgently requiring of improvement in attack and Bamford aiming to resurrect his playing days.
The song about Wilder gained traction this spring. An apologetic Bamford along with Leeds boss, Farke, phoned the Sheffield United manager the following day.
Chris Wilder commented at the time: “Had a conversation with Patrick yesterday and I have no issue at all with that. I’m not sure regarding the words used from a fellow professional! However I valued and respected him giving me a call.
“We had a short while and similarly I spoke to Daniel as well and we had a longer discussion together and he is a super guy, a top guy. Back in my playing days we used to give it and accept it and that is an integral part of football across all levels, including a Sunday morning. I've got absolutely no issue. I'm fine with the situation and I said that to Patrick.”
