HBO's It Spinoff Debuts Second Early on HBO's Digital Service

Excitement is building for the chilling show the Derry series, that's been earning acclaim and weaving in themes from other Stephen King works. Just one day after launch, HBO declared that the second installment will premiere ahead of schedule, scheduled ideally for October 31st.

Schedule Change Particulars

Starting on October 31 at midnight PT, episode two of the Derry prequel will make its debut on the streaming service, prior to its traditional TV airing. Future chapters of the show's first season will be released on Sunday nights on the network and streaming service, building toward the final episode on the 14th of December.

Series Overview

Based in the world of King's It, Welcome to Derry is inspired by King’s iconic novel while enlarging the world established by the It movie director in It and It Chapter Two. The original It focused on young characters facing terrifying threats, making it appropriate that this show follows in those footsteps. However, the first installment of HBO’s Welcome to Derry proves it aimed to increase the tension, providing heightened horror than the movies and setting a dark atmosphere for the upcoming episodes.

Setting and Themes

Located in the early '60s, this show presents a new generation of parents and youngsters residing in a outwardly charming locale hiding a sinister core. This place functions through a cruel, recurring cycle—one marked by aggression, prejudice, and paranormal events, as a monstrous presence reappears each 27-year cycle. While It: Welcome to Derry might appear like it leans too heavily to the films initially, what sets apart the streaming show is its parallel storytelling—told from the viewpoints of young and old at the same time. Younger characters stay particularly vulnerable to the entity's fear, but grown-ups aren’t spared confronting their individual fears born from Derry’s deep-seated bigotry and lurking supernatural forces.

Episode 2 airs on October 31 at midnight PT.
