Edwards along with O'Neil represent the initial candidates under consideration to replace Vitor Pereira as head coach of Wolves.
The previous coach was sacked on the weekend after the team's 10-match without a victory beginning to the top-flight campaign.
Furthermore Edwards and O'Neil - both of who have previous links to the team - are part of the names to be evaluated by the Wolves ownership.
The manager is currently at another club, which would pose a possible hurdle to his hiring at Wolves' stadium.
However the ex- Luton Town head coach - who played more than 100 of games for the club during his time as a player - is considered a strong candidate for the vacancy.
The mid-career manager is said to have support from the Wolves directors as they start the process of hiring a new head coach.
O'Neil is also appearing as a unexpected contender, although he would be a shock choice considering he was sacked by the club in the previous winter.
The ex- West Ham midfielder is out of work which means the club would not need to pay any buyout fee.
