Brian Eno Encourages Support to Propel Palestinian Solidarity Lullaby to UK Holiday Chart Peak.
A charity drive is aiming to launch a traditional song from Palestine to the peak of the festive singles chart. The campaign hopes to send support to people in Gaza while also showcasing Palestinian cultural expression.
A Chance for Solidarity and an "Surprise Victory"
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who contributes to the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a moment to support Palestinians over the Christmas period. He remarked the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“It would be incredible if that happened, yes,” he commented. “I won't be completely disappointed if it fails to, festive releases are a category of their own.”
Resilient Spirit of Freedom and Dignity
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the adaptation of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's resilient spirit.
“It has a profound significance for countless listeners,” Barghouti explained. “It’s basically saying that I would rather die in dignity than exist without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we want to live a dignified life that we merit as a people.”
Recording Origins and Featured Artists
The song was recorded following a major charity concert held in September. First conceived to be captured during the live event, the rendition was omitted from the lengthy event due to scheduling overruns.
The diverse array of musicians appearing on Lullaby features a selection of prominent voices from the scene. All participated in the benefit event, which successfully generated a significant sum for humanitarian aid.
Production and Release
Lullaby was brought to life by a group of producers and composers. The song features a combination of the original Arabic with contemporary English verses.
The group managing the initiative have clarified that their goal is to generate maximum funds for a specific fund. These proceeds will be allocated to projects in Palestine through an established charity.
“There is no a rigid aim,” a spokesperson explained. “We will pursue as much as possible. Naturally, the more the merrier. It all goes out to those in need in Gaza.”
The reality in the area was described as its widespread damage, with a overwhelming percentage of property described as in ruins or severely impacted.
“In that context, a handful of millions doesn’t make a massive dent. But I think the significant factor is above all spreading knowledge of this plight and proving that another narrative exists.”
The single 'Lullaby' is scheduled for release this Friday. Additionally, a complete film of the solidarity show will be made accessible to view on a digital service from the 19th of December.
