Battlefield 6's Relaxed Playlist Ignites Heated Discussions Over AI Players, Experience Points, and Wait Times
Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios introduced a new game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the standard Breakthrough setup but features several key adjustments:
- Each team includes only 8 real players, with the rest filled by 32 bots.
- Actions performed by real players grant complete experience points, while AI activities provide lower rewards.
- Only two maps are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
- Elements like Player tags, achievements, and stat tracking have been turned off.
So essentially, this mode delivers on its name: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, since it provides more options for players looking for alternative methods to have fun with the game. But, gaming history has shown one thing, it's that you can't please everyone. In other words, a lot of BF6 players are mad.
Community Responses: Anger to Support
"Gamers prefer real players. Don't repeat the mistakes of your rivals," reads one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking concept," says another. Meanwhile, in community forums, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are going with this title," and another lists all the issues they consider to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, amid the criticism, some gamers sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who have lives and can't play this game 24/7. Let them strike a balance," states another. A response via social media explains that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Valid Criticisms and Player Feedback
All that said, there are valid points to criticize Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have pointed out that it could increase queue times even longer for different playlists because of the sheer number of playlists currently available. On a similar note, some areas already encounter AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, one of the biggest complaints is that a previous feature was promised to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to remove bot farms from the system. So Casual Breakthrough feels like the community meeting them in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. A different user describes this mode as the developers "making a mistake so hard, I had so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?
If Battlefield Studios has proven anything to date with the latest installment, it's that they're listening and acting on feedback. Tasks that were overly hard got fixed very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics shows this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to change it again.
