A Generous Shopper Took Care of My Food Items When I Was Unable
At the checkout in the supermarket, I encountered a difficulty covering the cost of my shopping totaling $100. This wasn't about lacking funds, but I had forgotten to transfer money to our daily spending account. I was trying to transfer the funds promptly while at the register, however, the mobile banking application was down.
My two young children were with me by my side, one small child and a baby, one of whom began crying loudly. As the line grew longer of other customers behind me, the store employee put my scanned items on hold for the items already scanned and stored it, then moved on to assisting other people.
Nervously, I reached out to my partner and asked him to come down to the supermarket bringing his debit card and pay, because it looked doubtful that I would manage to completing the payment. As I spoke to him, a female shopper behind me covered her shopping costs – before saying to the employee, “I’ll pay for hers, too.”
I made an effort to decline, yet she would not accept it. She simply stated:
“Just pay it back in the community somehow.”
I was deeply touched that someone would do that toward me – it was incredibly thoughtful. The lady noticed I was flustered and embarrassed in the crowded checkout line and stepped in to save the day.
Our community is relatively small, however, as the event unfolded rapidly, I cannot be certain exactly who helped who paid for the groceries, so I haven’t been able to thank her.
Yet I respected that kind woman’s request. At the time, I possessed a large collection of baby products for sale on Facebook Marketplace. But after that day, I took it down and posted in a local “buy swap sell” group allowing me to donate all items without charge to someone in need. A female guardian of an infant in foster care accepted my proposal, therefore, I am pleased that I managed to extend the goodwill.
